According to Staley of South Carolina, Watkins is still suspended while her allegations are being processed.

S.C., Columbia — The status of suspended forward Ashlyn Watkins has not altered, according to South Carolina coach Dawn Staley, who is also uncertain as to when or whether her player will be available for the season.

Watkins, a 6-foot-3 junior from Columbia, was taken into custody on August 31 and facing charges of kidnapping and first-degree assault and battery.

The day after her squad began autumn practice, Staley remarked, "Nothing's moved yet." We won't relocate till her circumstances have somewhat stabilized. She has no control over it. It is beyond our control.

Watkins was not a member of the party that visited the White House and has been suspended from the team since the incident.

Watkins led the Gamecocks with 91 points and 7.4 rebounds on average.
Watkins is anticipated to replace Kamilla Cardoso, the 6-7 scorer from the previous season who is currently playing in the WNBA. Less than two weeks before the Gamecocks play Michigan in Las Vegas on November 4 to start the season, Watkins is set to appear in court on October 25.

Watkins was doing well, according to Staley, even if he wasn't training with the team.

The coach answered, "Yes, she's fantastic."
